A Personal Note About My Husband Colin

Hi, it’s Aly – Colin Allred’s wife. If you’ve been following along here, you’re probably used to hearing directly from Colin. But today, I wanted to do a Substack post of my own to share a personal message with you about why I believe my husband deserves your support in this election.

As a mom, a lawyer, and someone who gets to see Colin behind the scenes every single day, I get asked all the time what drives him. The truth is simple: Colin is a fighter, and he has spent his entire life standing up for his friends, neighbors, family, and values.

Standing Up From the Very Beginning

Our story started back in law school, where Colin and I first met. Even back then, his dedication to public service was obvious to anyone who spoke to him.

After law school, he became a civil rights and voting rights attorney, working in the Obama administration and spending years fighting on the front line to protect voters across Texas. He believes deeply that in a democracy, every single voice deserves to be heard.

That commitment to doing what’s right isn’t just a political talking point for Colin – it’s who he is at his core.

I’ll never forget Jan. 6. I was seven months pregnant with our son at the time, watching the news in horror as the Capitol was attacked. Colin texted me from inside the building to tell me that, whatever happened, he loved me and our family.

While inside the chamber, Colin prepared to defend the room, his fellow representatives, and our Constitution. That harrowing day proved to me that Colin is the kind of leader who doesn’t run away when things get tough or dangerous. He stands his ground for democracy.

Colin’s Record of Selfless Leadership

Colin’s dedication to public service has always been about putting the country and our community first, never personal ambition.

Just look at his history of leadership: When he saw the Texas Democratic Senate primary heading toward a messy, expensive runoff that risked dividing the party when unity was needed most, Colin selflessly stepped aside. He put the broader fight for our state and country ahead of himself because he genuinely cares about delivering results for working families.

At home in Dallas – the community where Colin was raised by a single public school teacher and where we’re now raising our two boys – he’s the exact same man. He’s a loving husband, a devoted father, and someone who has unwavering faith in the people of North Texas. I know without a doubt that he will always do right by working families in TX-33.
