Happy Labor Day!

Colin Allred speaking to union members.

Today is Labor Day – a moment for us all to honor the incredible achievements of American workers and labor organizers across the country.

Because of their efforts, we’ve established a set of standards for the well-being and fair treatment of every worker: the eight-hour workday, safe working conditions, fair pay, and more. And as someone who’s benefited directly from these wins and from being a part of a union in the past, I’m taking a moment to reflect.

During my time in the NFL, I was a part of the NFL Players Association, an affiliate of the AFL-CIO. To this day, I still carry this old card in my wallet as a reminder of all they’ve done for me.

Like millions of workers across America, my leaguemates and I collectively bargained for things like our health care, working conditions, and our retirement – benefits that are critically important in case you get injured or sick on the job.

As an NFL linebacker, I learned the value of that firsthand when I suffered a career-ending injury during a game. Our union, the NFL Players Association, had my back during one of the toughest transitions of my life, reminding me how vital it is to look out for one another when times get tough.

Today, many working Americans aren’t as lucky.

Since taking control of Washington, Donald Trump and his MAGA allies in Congress have made it their mission to make life harder for working families.

They pushed their so-called “Big, Beautiful Bill,” which issued sweeping cuts to health care. They refused to extend critical Affordable Care Act subsidies for folks who depended on them. And with millions of Americans now facing sky-high premiums – or having to forgo coverage altogether – an illness or injury like the one I got can cost you everything.

The GOP’s track record on health care and workers’ rights is unacceptable. Period.

Democrats like me are fighting at every turn to safeguard workers’ protections and expand access to health care for American families.

That’s why I am proud to be endorsed by the Texas AFL-CIO, and especially by the state American Federation of Teachers as the son of a former Dallas public school teacher. Their recognition shows the strength of our movement and their belief in what we can accomplish for working families in North Texas.

I’m running for Texas’ 33rd Congressional District so that I can deliver real results for union members and hard-working folks in our community – and so that we can make a real difference at the national level by helping flip the House this November. But if I’m going to succeed, I need your support.

So, on this Labor Day, will you chip in $25 or whatever you can spare to help a retired union member get back to Congress to fight for working people in America?
